About This Blog

‘Well, in OUR country,’ said Alice, still panting a little, ‘you’d generally get to somewhere else—if you ran very fast for a long time, as we’ve been doing.’

‘A slow sort of country!’ said the Queen. ‘Now, HERE, you see, it takes all the running YOU can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!’

I am a professional software developer, with skills firmly entrenched in Microsoft technologies. I have been doing this for more than a decade and a half, and I’ve found one thing as a developer: 90% of the skills you use at any given time will be mostly obsolete in 5 years.

That’s the nature of the business. You have to keep running to stay still. Hence the quote from Through the Looking Glass and the name of this blog. Also, life in general is like that too, I’ve found.

So I’ll be blogging about the stuff I’m interested in and the stuff I’m working on. That’s mostly ASP.Net and SQL Server, but it also covers MVC, javascript, JQuery, HTML5, developing for mobiles and tablets, and test-driven development. And lots of other stuff that falls within that.

I’ll be talking about problems I’ve solved and how I solved them, posting summaries of details I’ve found out about particular technologies, recommending articles by others if I think they’re worth sharing, and suchlike.

I hope you enjoy and get something out of this blog.
